Lo Water Guide Service welcomes you to Phoenix, an urban desert oasis spread in the center of a big valley. Despite our arid region we have a ton of water that flows through. Our once untamed rivers are now locked behind massive reservoirs which gives way to lakes and then into our unique canal systems. Some of these canals are thousands of years old and were hand dug by Natives to make this inhospitable land, hospitable. We are also permit holders for the Tonto National Forest which opens up our trips to some of the rarest trout on earth, Gilas. Rest assured no matter where you want to fish around Phoenix, you've found the guide service for it. We offer a wide range of trips, starting from the canal systems that flow all through Phoenix metro area. These canals host a variety of warm water species but our main targets are the grass and common carp. These fish grow to massive proportions and take you into backing quickly! If the city isn't quite your thing, step an hour north of Phoenix and here you will find 2 more prime angling reservoirs- Bartlett lake and Lake Pleasant. These trips utilize our 16' skiff to chase large mouth bass, striped bass, and white bass. The boat drafts in about 6" of water, this unlocks our "desert flats". We 100% stole the idea from poling pancake flats in Oahu. Chasing that feeling, we outfitted our skiff to pole through super shallow regions to target tailing carp. This is an all visual fishing style that is much like stalking game! If the low desert saguaros and steep abundant mountains aren't enough, take an hour and half drive to Payson. This small town is our favorite Northern town. It's not a college town or a vortex so the crowds are much less. Just good people. We fish just under the mighty Mogollon Rim for some of the most beautiful trout in the West. We offer trips tailored to those wishing to complete the AZ trout and wild trout challenges. Phoenix is filled with hundreds of miles of canals and many reservoirs but not all of it is prime fishing spots so this is where your guide’s local knowledge comes in. Derek is one of the few guides born in Phonix Arizona that was raised on local lakes. He started fishing at a very young age. As a kid, he would get really curious about fishing techniques, fish patterns, and seasonality as well as where the best fishing spots are depending on target species. He has spent a lot of time trying to learn everything that an expert angler should know. He’d fish and try different baits, gears, and styles to improve his angling skills and to discover more about it. He then started fly fishing in the year 2013 and this is where it all started—he uncovered his love for Carp fishing. Since then, he has specialized and developed his expertise for this particular species which is known to be undoubtedly challenging to catch. According to Derek, he joined a local legend who got him into a Carp, and from that day forward, he has become 100% addicted to it.&nbsp; Prior to Carp, he has already established his expertise in Trout fishing but at some point, he says that it became a little bit exhausting for him due to the long driving hours spent. He is the type of guide who would scout fish daily to ensure that he and his guests would get as many shots as possible. He is honest to say that not every day is a perfect day of fishing but he does everything to make “a great catch” happen. He believes that the fish are smart and to increase success, anglers should be very efficient at casting 60’ fast, must maintain good line management, and must bear in mind that accuracy also plays a huge role. Deposit: A 20% deposit is required for all online bookings. This is non refundable, but can be applied to future booking.Balance is due in cash or credit card on the day of the trip.

I don't like to charge a deposit, but due to recent booking and canceling last minute events. I feel it appropriate so I don't block out dates and then not able to re book.

Guest Cancellation: &nbsp;In the event that you need to request a cancellation, you must do so 14 days before your charter date in order to receive a CREDIT for another date. If trip is cancelled less than 14 days, no credit will be issued.

Guide Cancellation: In the rare event that your guide must cancel due to inclement weather, equipment issues or health, you will have the option to reschedule for a future date or cancel and receive your deposit back in full. Weather: Hot weather is normal here. Trips cancelled due to hot weather is non refundable. Wind, is a somewhat rare event. Rain even rarer. I pay very close attention to weather and can read our local weather patterns. I will never put the safety of us over weather. we always play it safe.

This trip was brought to fruition after wandering our beautiful Arizona deserts and water ways. With so many mountains ranges that go beyond what we can even perceive to the abundance of wildlife that find their ways to the water to survive the harshness of the desert. There are sights to impress the most seasoned traveler.

This service is offered for the anglers that want to diy. We only use St. Croix fly rods. All rods come clean and in perfect shape. We will do a visual inspection upon renting and any damages or broken rods or damage due to negligence will be charged $50 for replacement. We have a few selection of wt’s for your specific application. Like the Salt River, Lakes, canals and trout. Additional flies, leaders and other gear can be purchased at AZ Fly shop or if we have our guide flies on hand, we can sell those. Rate is $60 per rod, per day. Flat rate.

This is one of our favorite trips. Using our poling skiff, we can get within feet of unsuspecting tailing(feeding) carp. This trip is full of adrenalin casts and fun eats. These fish will test all aspects of your game and make you a better angler. These trips are usually done at Bartlett lake, Lake Pleasant, or Roosevelt lake and our start times can be later in the day as we like the sun nice and high. This trip is best between late March and late December. We can fit 2 plus me on the boat but only one angler can cast at a time.

Flats Fishing in the Boat for Carp 

These trips take place minutes away from downtown Phoenix. This is a great trip for someone with a few hours to spend and fishes year round. I’ve developed techniques that make these grass carp go crazy for the fly. Beginners have had luck with my techniques, but an accurate caster will increase your fish. We will help with accuracy and give pointers as needed. This is one of our most affordable trips.
