Fly Fishing For Carp in Arizona

The Fly fishing in and around Phoenix has been really good! we are catching Carp consistently and have been letting the trout get a little rest with the high temperatures we have been having. When the weather get hot its a great time to target Carp with the fly rod!

We are targeting Carp in the Canals of Phoenix with mostly dry flies. The fishing has been really good for the past few weeks and the carp are providing us with a ton of fun!  Once you catch your first carp on the Fly you will be hooked! Book a trip today to learn how to target these picky eaters!

Bass/ Canal Carp Phoenix Fishing Report 

Client turned friend Matthew Bernucca came down for a full day trip. We started nice and early at Bartlett and did well on poppers fishing for bass. Then we headed to the canals to throw dries at carp in the canals. Had an awesome time carp fishing in Phoenix.  

We fished for bass earlier in the day with poppers and then switched it up and targeted Carp in the Canals around Phoenix with Dry Flies. There is nothing more exciting than fly fishing for Carp here in the canals. Book a trip to catch some carp on dries! 

<div>Carp fishing has been good in the canals. Some high water has proved our swinging technique to be the meal ticket. Dries are still working as well.&nbsp;</div>

<div>the trout bite isnon in the cool temperature mountains. Come and check out the beautiful country. Arizona has some if the best small stream fishing in the southwest and only about 1.5 hours from sky harbor international airport. custom trips available&nbsp;</div>

<div>Air temps are in the 100's and water is in the 80's.. That cannonky meannone thing, carp in the flats! Plez water is pumper from the colorado river, so its gin clear almost always. THis is great for sighting carp but they can equally see you! THe carp seemed to be non existent until about 2pm. I fished my areas where the carp always are, and they werent there! so, we kept fishing and scouting. Once 2 hit, we stated seeing them. Now ive always said that carp like it hot, i guess 10am isnt warm enough haha. We would hang off the bank, i would pole in the shallows and use trolling motor in the deep. All the carp we saw were in about 3' of water and were actively feeding. Tails up, face down, one had its back out of the water, Thats awlays fun. drag and drop!</div>

<div>Well, the early summer morning bite is on for largemouth bass here in Phoenix. Seems like the earlier the better during &amp; after a full moon and any other time, the bite occured a little later in the morning, about 7 am.&nbsp;</div><div>All fish were caught on white basic poppers, tied by Josh Medill here locally. Saw lots of blue gills out there too. So, bring a sharpie to color up your white flies. greens and yellows flies would help imitate them.&nbsp;</div><div>THe bass still want the fly near where they are boiling. So, be ready to chase boils. And remeber, a single fish jumping is probably a carp. Youll know when bass are working shad..</div><div>STRIP SET!</div>

<div>The carp are still eating flies off the top. These carp really thrive in the heat. So expect very actively feeding fish. A very accurate cast will go a long way here. Getting the carps attention is vital, so dont be afraid of a slap happy cast.. cover ground and stay hydrated. its hot and gonna get worse. I always cover my skin rather than sunscreen. Big hat and good glasses are a must. Luckily canals are all in town so cold drink are jever far away. Be looking for "heads" that are rising fish.&nbsp;</div>

<div>We are entering the time of year when bass are super active on top water in the dusk hours. Which is oerfect as we are in the triple digit days. Dont let the hot weather fool you, this is my favorite time if the year to fish!&nbsp;</div><div>Start the day by throwing white or shad colored poppers. You really have to find the boils and get the fly in front of the pursuing bass.&nbsp;</div><div>once you stop seeing boils, swich to a streamer. Bartlett is notorious for Silverside Shad, these shad have a green hue and a very distinct lateral line. Be sure to use a fly that replicates this, as these bass can be particular. Fish a retireve that really show the fly off. A hungry bass is gonna hit a foy at any pace, if it wants it bad enough. Good luck and let me know how it goes</div>

He has spent a lot of time trying to learn everything that an expert angler should know. He’d fish and try different baits, gears, and styles to improve his angling skills and to discover more about it. He then started fly fishing in the year 2013 and this is where it all started—he uncovered his love for Carp fishing. Since then, he has specialized and developed his expertise for this particular species which is known to be undoubtedly challenging to catch. According to Derek, he joined a local legend who got him into a Carp, and from that day forward, he has become 100% addicted to it.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Prior to Carp, he has already established his expertise in Trout fishing but at some point, he says that it became a little bit exhausting for him due to the long driving hours spent. <p><strong>Deposit: </strong>A 20% deposit is required for all online bookings. This is non refundable, but can be applied to future booking.</p><p>Balance is due in cash or credit card on the day of the trip.</p>

<p><br></p><p>I don't like to charge a deposit, but due to recent booking and canceling last minute events. I feel it appropriate so I don't block out dates and then not able to re book.</p>

<p><strong>Guest Cancellation: </strong>&nbsp;In the event that you need to request a cancellation, you must do so 14 days before your charter date in order to receive a CREDIT for another date. If trip is cancelled less than 14 days, no credit will be issued. </p>

<p><br></p><p><strong>Guide Cancellation: </strong>In the rare event that your guide must cancel due to inclement weather, equipment issues or health, you will have the option to reschedule for a future date or cancel and receive your deposit back in full.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Weather: </strong>Hot weather is normal here. Trips cancelled due to hot weather is non refundable. Wind, is a somewhat rare event. Rain even rarer. I pay very close attention to weather and can read our local weather patterns. I will never put the safety of us over weather. we always play it safe.</p>
